Celebrating 50 Seasons of the BMTFL – Brockville Men’s Touch Football League
Since 1976, the BMTFL has brought together 12 to 16 teams each fall for a competitive and spirited 10-week season of one-hand touch football — no blocking, just pure skill and strategy. Games are played Sunday mornings on local Brockville fields from September through November, culminating in the most legendary banquet in town. Join us as we mark five decades of tradition, community, and the love of the game.
So the 50th season is all done. Leatherheads won the Championship. Miracle Maid Maniacs won the B side trophy. Offence award went to Wade Zanchetta with 10 TDs and a total of 63 points. Interception award went to Jacob White for 12 INTs in 7 games. Rusher of the year was Chris Cook with 18 sacks in 7 games. The Championship winning QB was also the QB award this year, Tanner DeJong with 23 TDs, catching 2 INTs and getting 2 sacks on defense. Rookie Offense went to Zach Burnside with 26 pts. Roberto Noonan received the Rookie Defense award with 7 sacks. The Johnny Mac award went to Ian Speer. The Center award mug was given to Jack Wilson. The Whist'lin Mothers voted Jacob White as 2026 President with Devin VanBlitterswyk winning the Golden Boot in his Rookie year and Andrew Evans sipping from the Golden Slipper as rookie of the year. The BMTFL Micah Baerwald Sportsmanship Award went to Leigh Howard who claims it was his final year even with a bar full of players chanting "ONE MORE YEAR!" Leigh fits this award with his long playing career, dedication to his players, his sportsmanship to both team and competitors on the field and at the Banquet. Congratulations Leigh. The 50/50 money of 735$ went unclaimed and will be donated to a local family as food during the holidays with Dan Thompson's help from the Keystorm Pub. BMTFL also donated 400$ to the Kinsmen snowsuit fund. Our biggest donation will go to Brockville Harvest sharing with a corporate donation match that will put 4000$ to the food bank. That is a whopping 5100$ to charity from a league of 146 players and refs with their families and friends donating also. That is impressive!
See the previous post for 50/50 draw. So this had to be the closest games we have seen in the modern age of the BMTFL. Leatherheads won a really tight finish against the new Sharks team for 2025. The game came down to double OT to decide who went to the Championship game. Meanwhile, at Commonwealth, the rebuilding Dutchmen put in a final push and scored with only a few plays left to take the lead and win over the season long unbeaten Gabriel Pizza team. Then the crowds started to arrive on a sunny, then cloudy, then gradual sun again day at Commonwealth. The B Championship had a matchup of the 2023 Champions Snap Fitness team, now McArthur's Barbershop compete against the 2024 champion Miracle Maid Maniacs. What could be better. Well....it was a good game and it was McArthur's putting in the last ditch effort to score late and make the outcome tense but the Maids kept the lead to win the B trophy. Congrats to the Miracle Maid Maniacs. Then we proceeded to the Championship ship game right after we received pizza at the field from Gabriel Pizza. Hot and fresh! Leatherheads the bridesmaids in the previous years took the Championship trophy from the veteran Dutchmen. It was a great game. Lots of action on the field and on the sidelines. But Leatherheads stayed strong and now claim the 2025, BMTFL trophy with Tanner Dejong as QB and the insanely talented super long term BMTFL player from the 1980s, Dale Dejong. At the awards banquet, we thanked Great Canadian SuperStore, M&M meats and our own Pierce Lapensee for the donation to the BBQ that raised almost 800$. Huge thanks to Dan Thompson and the great staff at the Keystorm Pub, that for some reason keep letting us [...]
